Summary

He was supposed to be a myth。 But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell。。。 he was, quite simply, mine。

Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses。 But all that’s ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city’s dark facade。

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth。。。 a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed。

Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light。 But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he’s spent years craving, it’s all the excuse he needs to help her—for a price。 Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he’ll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close…

A modern retelling of Hades and Persephone that’s as sinful as it is sweet。

I loved the narrators for this book and enjoyed most of this book。 This book was so spicy, it was a little outside of my preferences。 I did enjoy the hades/Persephone story。 While I will probably not continue the series, this is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone looking for major spice。 ** I received this book as an Arc from NetGalley。**

I adored this modern retelling of Hades and Persephone , seeing their chemistry and amount of sexual tension was captivating。 A few grammar/spelling issues was the only thing that let it down。

DNF at 50% for right now。 Just wasn’t feeling the story and the characters I didn’t connect with at all unfortunately。 The relationships didn’t seem real and it felt quite forced。 Sad because I’ve heard so many people talking about how good it is…。

The romance lovers on bookstagram were really hyped about this book, so of course I was excited to read it。 But I didn't like it。。。 It was really quite boring。Writing style: The only reason I finished reading this book is because I've fallen head over heels for Robert's writing。 I don't know what it is about her writing style, but I dig it。Characters: Everyone lacked a personality。 EVERYONE。 It was sooo annoying。 The lack of depth really bugged me and made the already dragging story even more bo The romance lovers on bookstagram were really hyped about this book, so of course I was excited to read it。 But I didn't like it。。。 It was really quite boring。Writing style: The only reason I finished reading this book is because I've fallen head over heels for Robert's writing。 I don't know what it is about her writing style, but I dig it。Characters: Everyone lacked a personality。 EVERYONE。 It was sooo annoying。 The lack of depth really bugged me and made the already dragging story even more boring。Story: This plot has a lot of potential, but it didn't deliver。 The modern take on the Gods of Olympus was nice in theory, but it just didn't work for me。 A lot of parts dragged and the interesting parts were far too short to really grab my attention。Unfortunately, this isn't the book for me。 Oh well。。。 Plenty of other romance novels out there。 I'm giving this one 2 stars。 。。。more

I picked this up on a whim as my current read was just too much effort。 I love mythology and one review mentioned that if you loved A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J。 Maas, then this is for you。 I thought I'd be in for a good mythological re-telling, set in ancient Greece or some alternate world intertwined with romance using all the mythical figures that we know and love。 However it turns out to be pretty much a contemporary romance just using Greek gods and goddesses as a flimsy casing。 Olym I picked this up on a whim as my current read was just too much effort。 I love mythology and one review mentioned that if you loved A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J。 Maas, then this is for you。 I thought I'd be in for a good mythological re-telling, set in ancient Greece or some alternate world intertwined with romance using all the mythical figures that we know and love。 However it turns out to be pretty much a contemporary romance just using Greek gods and goddesses as a flimsy casing。 Olympus is a modern-day secret city set in America (of all places!) with the gods being the equivalent of celebrity A-listers, who backstab and manoeuvre to gain control and advance themselves。 Anyone who's tagged it as paranormal, fantasy or even mythological is kidding themselves; there's no fantastical elements in this, the only slight part would be the barrier between the lower city (The Underworld) and the upper city。 If you're approaching this as a mythology or fantasy lover, you're going to be disappointed on that front and it's nowhere near comparable to A Court of Mist and Fury。In this, Zeus is a lecherous old fuck with too much power who likes to bully and control the other gods of Olympus。 He, along with Persephone's mother, Demeter, trick her into an engagement with him, something she had no idea or no say in。 In her desperation to get away from him she crosses the boundary into the lower city to Hades realm, and is taken to safety by the man himself。 She makes a deal with the devil; that Hades use her to humiliate and undermine Zeus, whilst in return she stays with him the remaining 3 months before she can access her finances and escape Olympus forever。 They of course, fall for each other in the process。Despite my initial surprise that it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, I gave it a chance。 The premise was great but there just wasn't enough depth for me。 Don't get me wrong I was interested enough to read it to the end- I wasn't bored- but it was very weak。 It was weak and shallow in all aspects; writing style, character building, plot development, dialogue and romantic scenes。 The romantic scenes seemed to be the cliché, stereotyped things that a woman wants one after another; flowers, clothes, shopping, puppies- it was a bit eye-roll inducing, what happened to coming up with any original sort of story? My main motivation for continuing to read was to find out how Zeus would retaliate- there was me thinking that any minute now shit is going to go down and they would ensue in a sparring match with each other。。。 instead he very kindly allows them time to fall in love fuck each other's brains out。 Nothing happened until the very anti-climatic end where Zeus did the exact same thing to Persephone's sister as he did to her in the beginning, Hades vows to kill him, loses his nerve, Zeus is killed by accident and they both get to live happily ever after。 Really underwhelming。 My fault for expecting too much of a romance I suppose。It is also highly repetitive, for example in the beginning, in Persephone's perspective, she constantly goes on about how freedom is her end goal and nothing can stop her from achieving that and leaving Olympus forever。 And with Hades, it's the fact that Zeus killed his parents in a fire when he was younger and he survived with awful scars, over and over。 There's nothing deeper explored there when it could have been, it's just the same thoughts being recycled; these sort of circular thoughts continue throughout the book as if repetition will give it depth。 As characters they're quite two-dimensional too, as before anything that could've been built upon to make them stronger, realistic and more interesting, wasn't fully developed。 The rest of the gods and goddesses barely featured in the story which seems like a lost opportunity, there could have been some really great dynamics。I would've preferred Hades to be darker and dangerous, that's what you'd assume as Lord of the Underworld。 Instead he's a good guy trussed up as a bad guy。 For reasons unknown he is described as the "boogeyman of Olympus" like the reader is twelve (given the rest of the content, I should hope not!) and this is mentioned several times in the book, like it's meant to be threatening or the worst thing possible。 His character uses the word "fuck" at least nearly every other sentence and I honestly have no idea why or what the aim was there。。 maybe to make him seem like a badass?! Who knows。 It's like the author couldn't demonstrate that he's intimidating any other way。 One of the most absurd things things though was his insistence on molly-coddling Persephone like she's a child that can't take care of herself; is this what women want from a fantasy man?! It was weird。 This is definitely more erotica than romance story as sex scenes take up a good three-quarters of the book。 (Though I suppose most romance is that nowadays, what with Fifty Shades)。 They were good enough, certainly not great or mind-blowing。 They mostly concern exhibitionism and a tiny bit of dominance/submission。 My problem once again is that there's no depth to them- I prefer the grounding of those scenes to be apparent in their relationship with each other, their thoughts and emotions。 Even when it was just lust in the beginning, there's no build-up of anticipation or desire, it jumps straight into it and you get a litany of sex acts without the bonding。 Although I don't read erotic novels in my general reading, I do read online short stories every now and then outside of it and I can safely say that there are some immensely talented unpublished writers, both men and women who have created amazingly well-crafted stories。 It really is such a shame that Robert's level of writing seems to be the standard for this genre rather than it really pushing the bar in any way。Judging from the high general overall rating as it stands (4。09), I seem to be in the minority in my experience of this book。 Granted, contemporary romance isn't my jam and I thought it was going to be a different book entirely, but it could have actually been really good, had it been executed well, the initial idea was great。 I can't help wondering that there must be a gap in the market for people like me, who want an actual plot with a strong romance thread running through it, that actually has depth to it and is intelligently written。 Maybe the rare few do exist and I just don't know about them, feel free to recommend me any。 。。。more

1st recommendation I’ve tried reading from booktok - unsure if I’ll try another 3rd attempt at a Greek mythology retelling - can’t get into them。 Fast paced but the author tried too hard with the romance and forgot about the plot

3。75 stars, rounding up because I listened to the audiobook version。 The narrators are a perfect Hades and Persephone。 Especially Hades, Alex Moorcock's voice alone, *whew* it is hot。 Man needs to narrate some more romance/erotica books stat。This book has both fake dating and a girl that is tough but acts all sunshine。 Plus, it is Hades and Persephone, which I mean, come on, that was all I had to see to add to my Want to Read list。 About that though。。。I just saw Hades and Persephone and started 3。75 stars, rounding up because I listened to the audiobook version。 The narrators are a perfect Hades and Persephone。 Especially Hades, Alex Moorcock's voice alone, *whew* it is hot。 Man needs to narrate some more romance/erotica books stat。This book has both fake dating and a girl that is tough but acts all sunshine。 Plus, it is Hades and Persephone, which I mean, come on, that was all I had to see to add to my Want to Read list。 About that though。。。I just saw Hades and Persephone and started reading。 Did not read enough description to know it is erotica。 Not that this is a bad thing, just more of a Surprise! when you aren't expecting it。 Actually, it may have been more fun because I didn't know。The modernizing of this story was well done。 The only thing that occasionally felt odd was whenever these very formal people said things like "Yeah。" It was mostly Hades and it just didn't fit with the overall character。Overall, glad I listened to it and a good add to the modern retellings of Hades/Persephone。 。。。more

4。5 stars!! I really loved this book and the portrayal of the Greek gods。 I will say though I kind of wish there had been more context into the world。 There was basically zero background on how this world exists and this role playing started taking place。 I also kinda wish they had had powers。 Because there was some sort of “magic” on the bridges to the lower worlds… but again no explanation。 I did love the romance though。

Maybe I read this too close to ATOD… I don’t know。 The spice level is off the charts but the plot couldn’t hold my attention。 Always and forever willing to read a book about Hades and Persephone, though。

Katee Roberts delivers a distinctly modern, spicy, and ultimately feminist version of the Hades and Persephone myth。 The past couple of years have seen a delicious resurgence in Greek myth retellings that center around reshaping Hades’s stereotypical character into one that audiences not only love, but swoon and root for。 This retelling is no exception, and it’s a delightful read。 The romance is well done, the plot is fine, and most of all, I truly enjoyed Roberts’ refreshing take on Persephone。 Katee Roberts delivers a distinctly modern, spicy, and ultimately feminist version of the Hades and Persephone myth。 The past couple of years have seen a delicious resurgence in Greek myth retellings that center around reshaping Hades’s stereotypical character into one that audiences not only love, but swoon and root for。 This retelling is no exception, and it’s a delightful read。 The romance is well done, the plot is fine, and most of all, I truly enjoyed Roberts’ refreshing take on Persephone。 She is not a wilting blossom waiting on a savior or a sheltered novice cowering under the weight of her overbearing mother。 This Persephone knows what she wants and ruthlessly pursues her agenda。 Hades is blissfully caring, sincere。。。sweet even。 His curated mask as the boogeyman of Olympus is a paper-thin farce that Persephone easily glides through。 One thing in particular that I do like about this version is that Hades and Persephone actually communicate much better。 I think that’s an important update that sets this retelling apart from others I’ve read recently。 。。。more

Great start to Dark Olympus This is my first book of Katee Robert (I only read a novella of hers before), and I enjoyed this。 Starting with a Hades and Persephone retelling is such a good way to introduce us to the world of modern Olympus。 I feel like the build was a bit lacking but good enough that I understand the gist of it。 The relationship between Hades and Persephone was the opposite though。 I love their banter and I really like them as individuals and as a couple。 Looking forward to readi Great start to Dark Olympus This is my first book of Katee Robert (I only read a novella of hers before), and I enjoyed this。 Starting with a Hades and Persephone retelling is such a good way to introduce us to the world of modern Olympus。 I feel like the build was a bit lacking but good enough that I understand the gist of it。 The relationship between Hades and Persephone was the opposite though。 I love their banter and I really like them as individuals and as a couple。 Looking forward to reading more of Katee Robert's books。 。。。more

This book was just perfect。 It was just enjoyable every moment that I read it。Lets keep this short and sweet。 Hades is here for consent all day every day。 And Persephone is here to give our dark broody man all the love that he deserves。 Robert wove a semi magical world that had me hooked from beginning to end。 I can't wait for the next book with Psyche。 This book was just perfect。 It was just enjoyable every moment that I read it。Lets keep this short and sweet。 Hades is here for consent all day every day。 And Persephone is here to give our dark broody man all the love that he deserves。 Robert wove a semi magical world that had me hooked from beginning to end。 I can't wait for the next book with Psyche。 。。。more

Absolutely gorgeous retelling of Hades and Persephone with a twist。 Such a new concept, a modern day/urban retelling。 The relationship is so pure and genuinely pulls on all of my heartstrings。 I’ve only read Katee’s Touch of Taboo series, and this is completely different。 The spice was incredible, and the plot had depth and continued intriguing me throughout the book。

Sadly, this kind of bored me。 It’s a very different take on Hades/Persephone - as in it’s barely recognizable as such, beyond the character names。 Pass。 I’ll still read other books by this author, just not from this series。
